NEWS | Six Edinburgh players in Scotland team for 6 Nations opener

Six Edinburgh players have been named in the Scotland team to face Wales on Saturday in the opening fixture of the NatWest 6 Nations.

Four feature in the starting XV, with two more named among the replacements – including prop Murray McCallum, who if called upon will make his Scotland debut.

Stuart McInally starts at hooker after enjoying a tremendous Autumn Test campaign, scoring three tries. In the second-row, Ben Toolis - who signed a two-year extension with the club in November – starts and is partnered by Glasgow’s Jonny Gray.

Hamish Watson and Cornell du Preez link-up with recent Edinburgh signing and Scotland captain, John Barclay, in the back-row.

Lock Grant Gilchrist is named amongst the replacements alongside potential debutant Murray McCallum.

Townsend, said: “We’ve selected a squad that we believe can start the NatWest 6 Nations with the intensity and speed required to win in Cardiff.

“We’re expecting a really physical game against a very good team. Wales have one of the best defences in the game and an attack that sees forwards passing much more and a structure that enables backs to get on the ball.”
