NEWS | Community Catch-Up

Our Community Team have been busy since the start of the New Year and with plenty of exciting new projects on the horizon, they aren’t slowing down.

Edinburgh School Ambassadors

We were pleased to welcome our first Edinburgh Rugby School Ambassadors to the Heineken Champions Cup game against Montpellier at BT Murrayfield on Friday 18 January.

The Ambassadors are part of a new initiative to build strong relationships with our local authority and independent schools. There are currently five Ambassadors, with the hope of expanding the scheme over the course of the season. The Ambassadors help to support and spread the news of the work done by our team within the community.

St Augustines Inclusion Programme

Our inclusion programme at St Augustine’s is progressing with over 40 participants taking the steps towards full rugby matches. Training takes place twice a week for the select group of kids aged between 12-14. The programme is aimed at giving the kids a focus outside of education.

Edinburgh Rugby Academy

The Academy programme has re-started for 2019, with boys and girls from Murrayfield Wanderers FC, Linlithgow Rugby Club, Lasswade RFC, Lismore RFC, Edinburgh College and Royal High Rugby all taking part.

The Academy meet every Wednesday evening at Edinburgh College for gym sessions and rugby based training, with the aim of improving the participant’s strength and conditioning, as well as their skills ahead of the jump into senior rugby.

Corstorphine P4 and P6 Festival

Our Community team will be running the Corstorphine Rugby Festival for Primary 4 and 6 on Saturday 9 February, 10am-12pm. The festival will take place at Corstorphine RFC and will see around 20 teams across the various age groups take part in the day of rugby.

The festival has been put together by our community team for Bergen RFC, who have travelled over from Norway especially for the day. The Nordic team usually only play two games per season, one of which involves them taking a flight. Next month’s festival provides them the opportunity to play at least six fixtures in one day.

FOSROC Super 4’s – Under 17

The Edinburgh Under-17s continue to train hard in the lead up to the Fosroc Super 4s on Sunday 24 February which will see them play against Caledonia, The Borders & East Lothian and Glasgow & The West.
